There are times in life that something happens and you struggle between happiness and sadness. This was the case when we had a retirement party for Lois Mossa, our bookkeeper for many a year. I was really happy to see her embark on her next adventure, retirement. But I was very sad because we were losing a long-time friend, employee and trusted advisor to our ministry.
Lois first came on the scene over twenty years ago when we were working out of 27 Chandler Street. We were looking for a bookkeeper to help keep up with the growth we were experiencing in the ministry. Things were getting well beyond our capabilities to keep up with federal taxes, state taxes, banking issues, personnel issues. Then one day Lois walked in with her wonderful smile and quietly said, “I am here to help.” We first knew Lois and Gene through our kids, who knew each other from the Diocesan program, Search. Even after Search, they stayed friends and would go to each other’s houses for parties. That’s how she heard that we were in need of a bookkeeper.

Over the years Lois kept all things bookkeeping under control. She made sure we were on time with our payroll, taxes, budgets and managed our nemesis, “Quickbooks.” Through it all she kept her cool and when I lost mine she would calm me down. She made accounting enjoyable.
So we are happy she is spending time doing her quilting but saddened because she is not here to share her “sunshine” with us. Thank you, Lois!
