What Urban Missionaries Do!

Today I had one of those experiences, you know the kind that just jump out at you, smile and say, “Here I am!” Well, this one had the audacity to pop into my mind as we were gathering for our Tuesday prayer service. I had gone up to the meditation room ten minutes before noon, our usual time, so I could have some quiet time with the Lord before everyone else came up.

As the folks were starting to gather, I noticed that someone was moving chairs around in anticipation of the number of people who would be coming. I got up from my usual spot, and moved to a chair to my right so there would be enough chairs for everyone. As I sat there, I started to perceive that we would need even more chairs, and then it dawned on me that we had grown. Our numbers had increased without me realizing it. We went from four chairs to six chairs, and now we needed eight. “Wow,” I thought, “how and when did this happen?”

I have been so busy recently that I hadn’t fully realized the growth of the ministry over the last year. We have added two management people and are currently working on a third. We also have had volunteers coming to join us in prayer. There you have it, from four to eight, and I didn’t have a clue about the impact it would have on our prayer meeting. As a result of this experience, I have decided to take a risk and extend to you an invitation to come and join us in prayer. We start at noon, every Tuesday. The type of service varies. Sometimes it is the Rosary, or the Divine Office, or the Divine Chaplet coupled to a communion service with a short reflection by our own Deacon Tony Fiore. We would love to share our time with you in prayer. Just show up, and we will welcome you with joy!
